
Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan Appointed as Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia
Riyadh – The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) announced on Wednesday that Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan has been appointed Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars. The appointment was made by Royal Decree, following a proposal by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Prime Minister. This appointment reaffirms the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving the integrity of Islamic teachings and upholding the legacy of its great scholars.
Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, a distinguished scholar and long-serving member of the Council of Senior Scholars, has also been named President of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, with the rank of minister. Renowned for his expertise in Islamic jurisprudence and creed, Sheikh Al-Fawzan has contributed significantly to education, scholarship, and fatwa issuance in Saudi Arabia for over five decades.
The appointment follows the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Asheikh, the former Grand Mufti, who passed away on September 23, 2025. Sheikh Abdulaziz had served in the position since 1999 and was highly respected for his steadfast leadership and commitment to guiding Muslims according to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
